The Spring Fling Cocktail

Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s Party!’

Robin Williams

Today was one of those days! After a week of near constant rain in Southern California, the sun was warm and bright, the air smelled crisp and fresh and the hills were painted green with growth. After a productive day of exercise, writing and organizing, it’s time for a reward — a Spring cocktail!

When I go out to new restaurants and bars, I’m always the one who likes to look at the cocktail menu for something fun and fresh. Invariably, I turn to a “pfoofy” martini of some sort. There’s just something about the promise of an expertly crafted cocktail — premium alcohol, fresh ingredients, and a clever twist on a classic presentation — that is fabulously inviting. I can’t wait to hold it, almost as much as I anticipate the first sip on my lips!

This afternoon, when the clock turned to “Happy Hour-o’clock”, I turned to something refreshing and classic in my beverage playbook. My “Spring Fling” is fun, fresh, and flirty. After a few sips, it was so flirty that it made me say, “Alexa, Play songs by Tom Jones.” (Guess you just had to be here to understand and enjoy!)

What’s your favorite Spring cocktail? Whatever it is, make it one that puts a smile on your face and kicks off a weekend of fun! And if you have a minute, leave me the recipe and picture in the comments.

THE SPRING FLING
Some of my friends like it sweeter, and some like it with more grapefruit juice. However you prefer it, give it a small taste and adjust accordingly.

INGREDIENTS

¼ cup Grapefruit infused Vodka (like Ketel One or Absolut; trust me, it does make a difference)
½ Grapefruit, freshly squeezed
½ Lemon, freshly squeezed
2 tablespoons Pomegranate juice
1 teaspoon simple syrup
Sparkling Water, preferably grapefruit or pomegranate flavored
2 thin slices of fresh Grapefruit
Pomegranate seeds

PREPARATION

  1. Mix first five ingredients together in a cocktail shaker with ice.

  2. Taste and adjust to your liking.

  3. Pour into your favorite martini glass.

  4. Top off with a splash of soda

  5. Garnish with fresh pomegranate seeds and a grapefruit slice
