Black Magic Brew (Blackberry Sage Margarita)

Margaritas are synonymous with a sun-soaked summer, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy them on a dark, dreary Halloween night. To make your classic Margarita taste a bit like black magic, we'll add freshly muddled blackberries, then finish with a piece of dried sage to ward off any unwanted spooky spirits.

Equipment

  • Rock glass

Ingredients

  • 2 ounce Cabo Wabo Tequila
  • 1 ounce lemon juice freshly squeezed
  • 8 medium fresh blackberries
  • 5 leaves fresh sage
  • 1 large sage sprig
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup
  • 1 dash Angostura orange bitters
  • 3 medium fresh blackberries for garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425. Place fresh sage sprig on a baking sheet for approximately 12 minutes (give or take) for desired dried effect.
  • Rim a rock glass with black sanding sugar (for a haunted effect).
  • Muddle blackberries and sage leaves together in a cocktail shaker. Shake for 30 seconds to a minute until broken down and fragrant.
  • Add tequila, lemon juice, bitters, maple syrup to the shaker and shake again to mix well. Pour over ice.
  • For a Virgin Black Magic Brew, eliminate the tequila and bitters and simply top the muddled mixture with a sparkling water for a non-alcoholic treat.

Notes

For an extra spooky flare, line the glass with black sanding sugar (available at Michael's or on Amazon).
